50/50 challenge

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: ” Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’

I remember reading how some college students for every dollar they spent on themselves, they gave one dollar away to the poor and needy. How cool is it to live out the second commandment literally like that? It actually makes sense because they are spending as much on others as they are on themselves!

I’ve never really thought of caring for others in such a big way, but after having this on my mind and prayer for a few weeks, I’ve decided I would too. I’m going to start tracking how much I spend on everything — rent, gas, groceries, and even that speeding ticket! =P And in order that I won’t take this 50/50 challenge back, I’m writing this post publicly (so keep me on track guys!). Besides, if I truly believe everything I have has been given to me by God, I don’t think it’s a loss to redirect His blessings to others, right? To God be to the glory!!!

“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”

Here’s a short video for you to watch…I hope you are touched by it!

Think of me

I have a name;
You can know it
It’s been awhile since anybody asked.
I love to laugh
Just like you do
And my family also means the world to me
So as you choose what to wear,
Remember I fight to stay warm.
As you decide where to eat,
It’s my children who mourn.

Think of me.

Let me live in your mind;
Keep loving me
while others play blind.
Show true religion,
’cause words don’t relieve.
Your actions – they heal me.
Show that you believe.

Think of me.

You have a life;
I understand.
God has blessed you,
so enjoy what he has given.
Your hurts are real,
as mine are.
Possessions never shield a life from earthly pain.
As you consider your life, would you think about mine?

As you remember my tears, maybe yours disappear…
