The latest restaurant, “ad hoc”, opened in September 2006 in Yountville with a different fixed price comfort food dinner served family style every night. Originally intended to be a temporary project while Keller planned his lifelong dream restaurant for the location, serving hamburgers and wine, he decided to make ad hoc permanent and find a new location for the hamburger restaurant due to its overwhelming popularity. Continuing down the street from The French Laundry and Bouchon lies Thomas Keller’s more recent restaurant: Ad Hoc:
Ad Hoc: “for temporary relief from hunger”
Dinner menu of the day: affordable prix fixe dinner!
Warm Autumn Vegetable Salad: fresh vegetables from the garden
Herb Crusted Lamb Sirloin: tender and seasoned perfectly.
My favorite dessert: Apple tart, cinnamon ice cream, caramel drizzle. Tart is crispy like palmiers.
Hungry Cactus’ verdict: A
I am completely impressed with Ad hoc’s affordable ($52!) and masterfully crafted prix fixe menu. Like Thomas Keller’s other restaurants, everything was fresh and of high quality. Most memorable was the apple tart dessert — absolutely stunning! A simple dessert where the flavors just perfectly come together in your mouth. What a sweet and great way to end the meal! =)
